As the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing unmanned systems, robotics, and autonomy, the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) hosts the most significant event within the unmanned aviation segment – AUVSI XPONENTIAL.
AUVSI XPONENTIAL is where the unmanned systems community, including users, technologists, and policymakers, gather to collaborate and learn from each other. AUVSI XPONENTIAL hosts several keynote speakers, specialized workshops, and more to support this goal. This year, AUVSI XPONENTIAL program themes address developments in future mobility, the intersection with businesses and industries, design, and defense applications.
This year, SKYTRAC’s very own Jeff Sherwood has been selected to speak on the intersection of unmanned technology with businesses and other industries. This rich topic dives into how autonomy is already helping numerous industries improve safety and efficiency while reducing operational costs. Sessions within this theme take a closer look at specific use cases to illustrate the empowering and transformative role unmanned technology can play for enterprise users.
Truly Global Connectivity: Deriving Connected Enterprises from LEO Networks
Sherwood will specifically be discussing the evolution of communication capabilities to benefit UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) operations across multiple markets. He will be presenting how satellite technologies, especially Low Earth Orbit (LEO) networks, provide unmatched capabilities to propel the implementation and use of autonomous systems. The discussion will highlight how enabling Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) communications is essential for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) manufacturers and operators. Without BVLOS, operators cannot capitalize on and meet the significant demand for UAVs, especially for urban or mission-critical environments where UAVs can replace the role of traditional manned aircraft. Through this discussion, Sherwood will highlight the criticality of developing UAV avionics to the same rigor and standards as manned aircraft avionics.
Join Sherwood in Room S220D on Wednesday, April 27, from 3:15 pm to 3:35 pm at AUVSI XPONENTIAL 2022 to discover how LEO satellite networks can enable BVLOS and Command and Control capabilities to propel the use of unmanned technology by enterprise groups.
Jeff Sherwood – SKYTRAC’s Unmanned Technology Subject Matter Expert
Sherwood’s presentation draws on more than a decade of industry experience. Having equipped over 550 UAVs with Iridium Satcom solutions for BVLOS Command and Control capabilities, Sherwood is an established aviation professional. Currently, Sherwood works out of Saudi Arabia as the Director of Business Development for OEM, Government, and Military segments at SKYTRAC. Before SKYTRAC, Sherwood was the Business Development Manager at Blue Sky Network. His experience in business development, program management, and on-site support has provided him the opportunity to live throughout the Middle East. His studies at the University of Arkansas in International Relations, Middle Eastern Studies, and Political Science have supported his multinational and culturally rich career in aviation.
